Collagen For Her

Ingredient Spotlight: Biotin!

Ingredient Spotlight: Biotin!

One of the powerhouse ingredients we decided to include in our brand new collagen beauty blend is biotin! Biotin is commonly known as a vitamin for hair growth, but there is so much more to know about it. We broke down everything you need to know about biotin below!

What is biotin?
Biotin, also known as Vitamin H, is one of eight B vitamins. Biotin is water-soluble, which means the body does not store it, so people need to absorb these vitamins from their diets. Your body needs biotin to help convert certain nutrients into energy but it also plays an important role in the health of your hair, skin, and nails. Fun fact: Biotin is called Vitamin H, which stands for “Haar und Haut”, the German words for “hair and skin.”

What does biotin do?
Biotin plays a number of important roles in the body such as helping the body convert food into energy and maintaining healthy hair, skin, and nails. A biotin deficiency can lead to issues such as hair loss and brittle nails, so it is extremely important to make sure you are getting your daily allowance of biotin!

How much biotin do we need?
The recommended daily allowance of biotin for adults is 30mcg, which is why our new Collagen For Her Beauty Blend contains 30mcg of biotin (100% of your daily recommended intake). Like many other vitamins, we can get them from food or supplements sources but it is important to include these in your diet since our body cannot make these vitamins on its own.

Is more biotin better?
Be wary of biotin supplements that include excess amounts of biotin, such as 10,000% of your daily intake. Our bodies operate in a homeostasis state, meaning a state of balance, so taking 10,000% of a vitamin doesn’t do anything extra for your body.
