Everything You Need to Know About Probiotics!

In case you missed it, earlier this week we launched our first “This is For Her” product: Healthy Gut Probiotics! We know we are usually all things collagen over here, so we wanted to break down everything you need to know about probiotics, benefits, strains, and so much more! Let’s dive in!

What are probiotics?
Probiotics are a combination of live beneficial bacteria and/or yeasts that naturally live in your body. There are two types of bacteria: good bacteria and bad bacteria. Probiotics contain specific strains of good bacteria that help keep the body healthy and functioning properly. Good bacteria serve many purposes in our bodies including fighting off bad bacteria when you have too much of it.

How do probiotics work?
The main job of probiotics is to maintain a healthy balance in your body. When we are healthy, our bodies are in a neutral state and the number of good and bad bacteria is in balance. Good bacteria are essential for many bodily functions, including healthy digestion, but common issues such as diet, travel and stress can disrupt the natural balance of bacteria in your digestive system. Taking a daily probiotic supplement that fortifies your gut with good bacteria can help maintain digestive balance.*

What are the benefits of probiotics?
There are so many benefits to good bacteria in the gut including supporting your immune system, controlling inflammation, helping the body digest food, keeping away the bad bacteria that makes you sick, and supporting the cells that line your gut.*

What do the different strains mean?
There are many different strains of good bacteria that live in different parts of our body. Our Healthy Gut Probiotics contain four key strains that are found in the digestion tract: Lactobacillus Acidophilus, Bifidobacterium Lactis, Lactobacillus Plantarum, and Lactobacillus Paracasei.

What does CFU mean?
Colony forming units (CFU) is a form of measurement used to describe the presence of living, beneficial bacteria and yeasts inside a probiotic supplement. Our Healthy Gut Probiotics contain 40 billion CFUs but a probiotic is only as good as the number of active CFUs when it reaches your system.

The technology used in our probiotics creates a protective layer around the capsule to ensure beneficial probiotics are not destroyed by acids in the gut. Once it is released from the stomach to the digestive tract, the capsule is able to break down and release the probiotic into the body, allowing you to get the maximum benefit.

Why do I need them?
Good bacteria are essential for many bodily functions, including healthy digestion, but common issues such as diet, travel and stress can disrupt the natural balance of bacteria in your digestive system. Taking a daily probiotic supplement that fortifies your gut with good bacteria to help you maintain digestive balance.*
